Ongoing 4th of July Fireworks on the bay
Mayor Dick Anderson and Councilor Gary Ellingson were in attendance and got to answer many questions. They wanted to reiterate that a decision hasn’t been made for next year and that nothing was final. Particularly interesting was the revelation that the fireworks on the Bay are nearing 100 years old, having already been around in the 1920s when Eleanor come to Taft. This is certainly Lincoln City’s oldest tradition.
Obviously, the membership was strongly in favor of keeping the fireworks in Taft and were opposed to the idea of finding private funding. The meeting was cut short by time constraints to be continued the following Wednesday.
- Speak at City Council Meetings
- Distribute a city wide petition
- Obtain comparative sale figures from hotels and vendors
- Survey the firework attendees
- Letters to the Editor
- Radio appearances
BAMA Mission Statement
Lastly, BAMA has a revised mission statement and at the October 21st meeting we unanimously voted it into use, with Sheldon McArthur making a motion and Russ Whitehead seconding it. The statement reads:
"The Bay Area Merchants Association (BAMA) promotes and encourages economic prosperity and growth by supporting local businesses, community non-profits, promoting tourism and preserving the unique character of the Siletz Bay area."

An Evening with Tippi (Hedre ) this is an event that benefitsthe Roar Foundation, Shambala Preserve. The general consensus, after much discussion, was that this is a great event with great potential that may be larger then the scope of BAMA. Possible VCB involvement may be worth pursuing.
