Notes from our last meeting

Hello Everyone,

Here is a very short rundown of this last BAMA meeting.

Ed Kuntz opened with a government report, tell us that ODOT informed the City Counsel that due to slides on hwys 18 and 22 we should anticipate difficult traffic situations in those areas for the foreseeable future.

Next, Fran Jones mentioned that we are running short on volunteers for the visitors center.  This is something that we haven't mentioned much lately and the result has been a drop in volunteering.  This is going to become more of a topic again as we need to get some volunteers in there.  In the mean time we have a sign in the works the effectively changes the center to more of a pamphlet kiosk when there is no one there to man it.  If you have time, even if it is just an hour, please consider dropping by and trying to put customers in local shops!

Then Stephanie from the Roundabouts addressed the Celebration of Honor weekend that is near the end of September.  We are trying to coordinate a ceremony down on 51st and that has some kinks to work out.  Stephanie and Kip endeavored to get together and figure out the details.  She also would like for everyone to keep in mind that the Santa Run is on December 12th and even though it is early we should start to think about things we can do to augment that event and really light up the Bay Area!

The next agenda item was the final check in for the Crusin the Bay Car Show on Saturday.  Everyone made sure they had their assignments in order and we held our breaths and crossed our fingers for nice weather.  For everyone who made it down yesterday, you know that the event was a huge success!  Great weather and a wonderful time.  A post-event rundown will be in next weeks update, so look forward to that!

Finally, we had updates on the Beach Bark and An Evening With Tippi.  Both of these are getting press and Tippi has both posters and tickets printed.  Very exciting stuff.  If you would like to volunteer in any way with these two events, please contact me or Kip!

That's it for now, as always, huge thanks to Kip for dinner and letting us use the beautiful Historic Anchor Inn to meet at.  See you next week, Wednesday at 6pm as always at The Anchor!

Thanks!

More from Last week :

Chamber Business after hours:

Cindi Taylor from the O'dysius Hotel mentioned that Thursday, September 16th the Chamber will be having Business After Hours and it will be hosted by Kip and The Anchor Inn!  She will be encouraging attending Chamber members to bring toys and candy for the Anchor's Halloween Haunted House.  It would be great if BAMA members could be there and help represent our organization.  Starts at 5:30, hope to see you there!

Beach Bark & Anchor's Halloween Event

The Oregon Coast Today has donated $600 worth of ad space for the Beach Bark.  Thanks Dave!  Kip then talked about working with the Tanger Mall to shuttle the trick-or-treaters from the mall to the Anchor Inn and back again.  He also gave a rundown of pieces of that event that have been secured, from face painting and fortune telling to hayrides and smores.  It promises to be a huge event again this year.

Benefit dinner for Shambala Preserve

We have a time confirmed of 4:00pm at the Bijou on September 12th with BAMA members pitching in to help cater the first part of the evening and Cindi Taylor volunteering some help to serve wine.  Chef Jack from the Chinook Winds will be catering the dinner at the Anchor after the film and Heather Hatton is helping me with the organization and the promotions.  As usual, Dave Price with The Oregon Coast Today has agreed to help design our poster.  Wow!  Thanks everyone!  Tickets are $30 for just the movie and $90 for the movie and the dinner afterwards.

Tippi Hedren, who has a home in Depoe Bay is the star of the Hitchcock thriller 'The Birds' and has come down to support BAMA member Mor Art during his grand opening a short while back.  The goal is to set up a screening of The Birds followed up with dinner with Tippi Hedren at the Anchor Inn.  This event really took shape last meeting and should be a fun and exciting one.

1st Annual Cruisin' The Bay Car Show

The "1st Annual Cruisin' The Bay Car Show"-- Bay House parking lot on Saturday, August 28Th is coming together nicely.  Dave has been talking with the city to be sure we are compliant with any necessary permits we may need and it is looking good.  Registration for the event is 9AM at the Bay House parking lot, so Dave also checked into having SW Jetty closed for a few hours to expand on our space.  In order to accomplish this, event would need to utilize the BAMA insurance.  We agreed to this, so the "Cruisin' The Bay Car Show" is now officially a BAMA production.  We are looking for donations to the prize baskets, so if anyone has anything they want to get in there (gift certificates, etc) let me know!  Also, if you would like to sponsor a specific award that you or a representative from your business would give out, please contact me so we can put that together.

Sheldon Mcarthur from North By Northwest Books is handling the vendor tables at this event and reported that out of ten spots, he has four confirmed and four more maybes.  If you have merchandise that is relatable to this event and would like to have a booth, please contact me or Sheldon asap as spots are running out.
